Quantity Surveyor (Roads and Earthworks)

We're recruiting an experienced, site-based Quantity Surveyor to join a major roads and earthworks project in The Bahamas. This is a hands-on role where your cost management expertise will directly drive project profitability and financial control.

About the Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you'll take full ownership of financial and contractual management on-site. You'll prepare and monitor budgets, conduct valuations, administer contracts under FIDIC, AIA, NEC, or JCT standards, and manage claims and variations. Your role bridges site operations and head office, ensuring alignment between technical delivery and financial control.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Cost Management – Prepare, monitor, and control project budgets with accurate forecasting of costs and cash flow
  • Measurement & Valuation – Conduct site measurements, prepare interim valuations, and manage progress payments
  • Contract Administration – Administer contracts, handle variations, claims, and dispute resolution
  • Procurement – Source quotations, prepare tender documents, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor terms
  • Reporting – Produce detailed cost reports, financial statements, and project performance updates
  • Risk Management – Identify financial and contractual risks and advise on mitigation strategies
  • Compliance – Ensure adherence to company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards
  • Collaboration – Work with site engineers, project managers, and design teams to align financial and technical execution
  • On-site Duties – Monitor material usage, verify subcontractor claims, maintain accurate records, and prepare final accounts

Requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management
  • Professional accreditation (RICS, CIQS, or equivalent) preferred
  • Minimum 3–5 years' site-based experience on civil engineering projects
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering construction methods (earthworks, piling, concrete, drainage, roadworks)
  • Proficiency in measurement software (e.g., CostX, MS Excel)
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently on-site while reporting to head office
