Mine Planning Surveyor – Limpopo
We're looking for an experienced Mine Planning Surveyor to join our client's opencast mining operation in Limpopo. This is a hands-on role combining technical surveying expertise with production planning and operational management.
About the Role
You'll be responsible for conducting monthly volumetric surveys, producing short-term mine plans, and managing weekly production schedules that keep operations on track. Your surveying expertise will directly support blast block design, drill pattern layout, and compliance with DMRE statutory obligations. You'll also manage critical administrative functions including HR records, payroll, and weighbridge operations, while maintaining close liaison with the client's survey team and the Mine Manager.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conduct monthly volumetric surveys and submit reconciliation reports to the Mine Manager by deadlines
- Produce short-term mine plans and blast block designs aligned to approved mine plans
- Compile and distribute weekly production schedules with the Site Manager
- Maintain survey diagrams, peg records and reef intersection records as required by DMRE
- Liaise with the client's survey team and provide required survey data
- Monitor actual production against plan and flag variances to the Mine Manager immediately
- Manage HR, Admin and Weighbridge administration to ensure accurate records, payroll and weighbridge operations
- Operate and maintain survey equipment and software in good working order
- Compile and submit statutory survey diagrams and returns to DMRE within prescribed timeframes
- Support SHE with survey-based safety data, including berm heights, bench dimensions and road gradients
- Stake out blast block and drill pattern designs
- Measure drill holes according to drill plan
- Capture daily drill meters and track drill blocks for finalisation
Requirements
- Relevant mine surveying, mine planning, technical planning or mining-related qualification required
- Additional statutory or professional mining-related certification advantageous
- Relevant experience in mine survey, technical planning, production scheduling and production reporting in opencast mining
- Strong knowledge of mine survey methods, statutory obligations and DMRE submissions
- Experience with survey software, survey equipment and short-term mine planning
- Experience managing administration, HR records and weighbridge functions advantageous
- Strong production reporting, data analysis, client liaison and people-management skills
- Valid driver's licence required
