We are recruiting an Estate Accountant for a well-established estate in the West Rand area of Johannesburg.
About the Role
This is a key finance position supporting the smooth operation of a residential estate. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, preparing management and audit reports, and ensuring full compliance with tax and regulatory requirements. Your meticulous attention to detail and proactive communication with the Financial Manager will be essential to the role's success.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Conducting monthly Profit and Loss statement reviews and General Ledger analysis
- Capturing journal entries to correct misallocations and update account balances
- Managing municipal and creditor reconciliations
- Maintaining and updating client and vendor databases, including creditor information and purchase orders
- Supporting budget preparation, loading trustee/AGM-approved budgets, and participating in budget meetings
- Processing invoices, petty cash, petrol slip tracking, and payment loading on Nedbank
- Ensuring compliance with financial policies and regulations, including tax returns and VAT submissions
- Preparing and coordinating audit files, scrutinizing draft Audited Financial Statements, and following up with auditors
- Handling building registration updates and monthly EMP201 submissions
- Escalating variances, insurance claims, and legal fee inquiries to the Financial Manager
- Ensuring management reports are released within the first 10 working days of each month
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Professional certification (e.g., CA, ACCA) preferred
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in accounting or property management
- Solid understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and tax compliance
- Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Office
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in financial record-keeping
- Proactive communication and problem-solving abilities
- Knowledge of South African tax and regulatory requirements
